Elements of Competency Performance Criteria
Element: Determine job requirements
  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with SOPs
  • Determine requirements from the design brief, research and discussions with appropriate personnel

Element: Design a complex object for silversmithing
  • Evaluate relevant research information, references and resources for the design process
  • Record concept development through drawings, notations and design options
  • Prepare production plans for selected design solution and refine design in response to production considerations
  • Produce a model or maquette of the selected design based on requirements of the brief
  • Determine and obtain resources and equipment to undertake the task

Element: Apply silversmithing techniques
  • Determine appropriate silversmithing techniques and equipment through testing and experimentation
  • Select and apply silversmithing techniques and processes to produce the objects
  • Determine and apply soldering operations for complex items that require a large number of joins to be undertaken
  • Produce objects to design specifications and ensure consistency across items
  • Reduce the production of fire-scale during heating operations by using suitable temperatures
  • Identify and address production problems or inconsistencies based on knowledge of process and materials
  • Select and apply surface finishing techniques to the objects based on design requirements and prepare for presentation to the client
  • Apply appropriate control measures to hazardous substances according to environmental requirements

Element: Evaluate objects for meeting the design brief
  • Test objects for function against the design brief
  • Assess consistency of outcome quality in multiple objects and design features
  • Re-work, repair or recycle non-compliant objects in accordance with workplace procedures
  • Evaluate and document design processes in accordance with workplace procedures
  • Clean up and maintain production environment and equipment in accordance with SOPs

Submission Requirements

List each assessment task's title, type (eg project, observation/demonstration, essay, assignment, checklist) and due date here

(add new lines for each of the assessment tasks)

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
